Folks the San Diego NOOD regatta will be held March 16 - 18, 2012. I would like to see if we can get enough participation to put U20s back in this event and give U20 sailors a great escape from winter cold elsewhere. Please advise me of interest and preference for 2 vs 3 day regatta. Thank you & Merry Christmas.

Steve,
Have you been in contact with the other local owners and what do they think? If you can get comitments from 4 or 5 locals, I think the Colorado boats will travel in, and maybe some from Northern CA. If so we could get 8 or 9 boats from the event.
With such a long drive, I like a 3 day event.
Mark
-
Mark - I think we only have 3 boats left in San Diego. I am hoping some of the LA area & points North boats will want to come play.
Cheers,
Steve

Are the 3 you, Ty and Steve? Michael said he would go if he can get is work commitments covered, and I wondered if Glenn would commit or is he planning on sailing the Viper. That would be five and I would hope some of the Bay area boats might make the trip.
Mark
-
mark, i'll probably race the viper. but i'll get my brother to take the u20 if needed. or charter it out for gas money!
glenn

thanks Glenn!
It looks like the NOOD is building momentum. 3 boats from Colorado and 1 boat from Utah are interested in going. That would make 9 boats. If we can get some boats from the bay we can hit double digits.

The information on the website says that the specific racing venues will not be known until the SI's are posted. Mission Bay is a long way from some of the other locations. How are we supposed to do trip planning if we do not know where we are going to be sailing from?
We are considering this Regatta and would like to know more about what our options are. We would like to avoid a 25 minute drive from the venue to the hotel and back?
Steve?

Jay,
They have put us in the South Bay for the last 3 years and Steve Bowman has coordinated with the Coronado Yacht Club for launching and overnight storage. He is a member. So I would plan on the South Bay. However, I have always reserved cheap rooms close to the San diego Yacht club and hang out at the Fiddlers Green. Much cheaper than staying on Coronado. I have passed on the NOOD party tickets and dinner since that doesn't seem to be good value. There were a couple of teams staying at the Vagabond Inn and Alan Madsen turned his truck into a makshift bar and we all had appetizers and drinks in the parking lot! Hope you can make it this year.

Jay - I will continue to press for the South Bay venue and am pretty sure they will accommodate us. The organizers know they demolished participation by the U20 fleet the year after they put us out in the ocean (and the kelp)!
At this point it looks like Clifton and I have the last two San Diego U20s standing. I am waiting to hear if the other two SD owners are interested in chartering their boats.
Happy New Year,
Steve
-
What about Ty Beach #89 Voila, and Steve Crooke/Grant Wooden #67 Mr Happy. I think they are in the area. Can you contact them and see if they are interested?
Mark
-
They pretty much destroyed the Holder 20 fleet as well that year. An hour tow to the start line (which we one day missed due to tech difficulty ), two hour sail back in a dying breeze. Then they want you to spend money afterwards when your dead tired, I've felt the pain Steve
-
Mark - Ty moved East and I thought he sold the boat out of the area. I am not familiar with SOCAL boats other than mine, Clifton Odom's, Kevin Egelhart's , John Portier's and Michael Eisenberg's.
Happy New Year!

Contact Kevin Egelhoff. His boat is for sale in San Diego. He might be interested in chartering. His contact info is in the Class website classifieds. Glenn VanHeel said his boat is for charter, his post is earlier in the thread.

It looks like all the feedback prefers a 3 day event. Everyone interested, please advise me of your level of commitment to racing in this year's event and Wednesday I will lock it down with the NOOD organizers and Coronado YC. Thank you.
Cheers,
Steve

Mark - thanks for this summary. I would appreciate everyone replying to confirm as I begin to coordinate with Sailing World and Coronado YC.

Steve,
Redbeard #63 is committed to race in S.D. NOODS.

We should be in the "also possibilities" category at this point as we are still working over our calendar for season.

I know DogOnIt #138 is going. Jay, I hope you make it down. Great place to shake off the winter.
-
Folks - I submitted the attached request to Coronado YC today and anticipate their approval. I will also touch base with the Sailing World coordinator to remind them that the South Bay venue is the only one that works well for U20s.
I noticed that Sailing World has the wrong phone number for me on their list of class coordinators and I will ask them to correct it to:
619 -921-3939.
See you in March!
Cheers,
Steve
-
I'm afraid Toon Town can't make it. I have to be at Spring Mountain Raceway March 15-16, and Laguna Seca March 17-18.
-
Jay, Steve, Glenn are you planning to attend?
Tom Burden is thinking of going as well. We need to get boats registered and off the fence. I am buying my plane ticket.
Mark
-
Mark,
The boat charter to Travis Gregory is a no go. He backed out last week. If class members from back east would like to come out, contact me.
-
Madison is not racing. That turned out to be the only weekend that worked for both of our families for Elysia and I to come visit them in Montana. Family obligations trumped this one.
Jay
-
3 boats registered. We need 3 more by the March 5th to fleet.
-
This week San Diego is sporting highs in the 70s and the South Bay is kelp-free! Surely we can find 3 more boats from Northern CA, PACNORWEST and the Rockies looking for a winter reprieve and some great sailing. Give me a call if you need any help with arrangements.
Cheers,
Steve

Folks - I just learned that we have two SOCAL and two Colorado boats registered. We only need two more to make a class, but the late registration fee starts after 5 PM today. Don't miss this regatta!

Just learned that a 5th boat (Thank you Clifton!) has registered, giving us the 5 that Sailing World agreed to as the minimum today. I am still hoping more boats will want to join us for this great 3 day regatta on San Diego's South Bay. Coronado YC has also confirmed it will be hosting our class for the event.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,
The Board approved your request for the U20's to use our parking lot and hoist. I don't know who will be manning the hoist, but as you know, it must be members that have been checked out on the hoist.
We will have the gravel lot for boats/trailers taking part in this Regatta.
As usual, cars must be parked outside the lot.
The boats can come in a day before the Regatta and stay until a day after without charge. If they want to come earlier, have them call (or you can on their behalf) Fabian or Lou. These boat owners will be charged 30 cents a foot per each extra day. They must also provide current insurance and registration brought to the office where they will sign an "agreement for temporary gravel lot parking for trailerable vessel" We will attach their documents to this agreement for our records.
Thanks,
Alice

Fellow U20 sailors - we have three boats still looking for crew in beautiful San Diego, 16 - 18 March. Please reply to let me know if you are interested.
