Strictly Sail Pacific April 14-17: Volunteers needed
« on: February 23, 2011, 08:31:02 PM »
Strictly Sail is encouraging one design classes to exhibit at Jack London Square and the Association as agreed to pay the exhibitor fee.  I volunteered to put Uhoo! in the show with other one designs if we can get some volunteers to be present during the show and stir up interest in the boat.  I can do one weekday or weekend day; need some other volunteers--free ticket to the show!--just have to hang around the boat and answer questions and encourage new interest in the boat.  The Association is 100% behind this effort--let me know if you are interested.

Thanks Mike,
Count on me for one day. Not sure yet which one. As I mentioned on the Yahoo Group forum, my boat will also be present at the show, but in the water at the Torqeedo exhibit, so there will be two U20s at the event.

Mike,

I can do a half day on Friday - either 10 to 2 or 2 to 6.  Out of town over the weekend.

Thanks for bringing your boat to the show.

- John

We are set to go at Strictly Sail and will have a great display about the boat.   I still have some free tickets to those who would like to volunteer to be at the U20 Association display--let me know if you are willing to volunteer a bit of time at the show.    Mike Josselyn

It was a great show.   I'll post some pictures on the Facebook page when I download them from my camera.   The boat was right at the east entrance to the show and next to the Last Chance Saloon so we got lots of exposure.  We had a number of serious sailors who said the boat was on the top of their list and were glad that they had a chance to see one on display.   Since we were listed in the program, one person came from Fresno and another from Redding to see the Ultimate 20 and some others they were considering.  I made up about 100 brochures about the boat, had only 20 left at the end.

I kept a list of the very interested sailors and will be sending out to local owners to see about getting some prospects on their boat for a sail.  Drew Harper, with Spinnaker Sailing, was across the way from the boat and provided lots of good insight and steered people to the boat.  Tom Burden, David Woodside, and John Wolfe were the local owners who also volunteered to stand by the boat during the show and talk to interested sailors.  Was a good opportunity to get our boat in front of about 12,000 people--even if they were just sitting outside the Last Chance Saloon having a beer!

Thanks to all that helped make this event a success.  This is exactly the things we need to do as a class to market the boat right.  This and good showings to our regattas.

Also thanks to those that are member's of the class as this allows us to sponsor these kinds of events.  If you are not a member, consider joining.  It is a great group of people to be associated with!

Thanks so much,

Gregg Henning
